The skill to tell when you are being lied to invaluable. Honesty is one of the most important parts of a relationship. This not only includes your personal relationships but any relationship that you may come across.
In a perfect world everyone would tell the truth but until that day arrives. Here are 6 ways to tell if someone is lying
Eye Contact, If the person that you are talking to is giving little to no Eye Contact this is a classic sign that they are lying. This is because when a person lies they are afraid of being found out. They look away in a attempt to avoid their lie being seen through and to avoid the feeling of guilt that is associated with it. Instead they will glance from side to side and avoid lengthy eye contact.
Lack of physical movement, In normal conversation people are expressive. We will use gestures and motions to illustrate our point. This is epically true when we are passionate about the topic being discussed. If the person is unusually inexpressive with his hands and arms this can be seen as feeling uncomfortable or nervous.
Defensive Body Language, This means if the person has their arms and legs close to their body this indicates that they are defensive and uncomfortable . When we are comfortable and sure of what is being said our body is relax and stretched out. We are comfortable with our surroundings. So if the person has their arms or legs crossed this shows they are defensive and have something to hide.
Long Pauses, When speaking indicates that the person is thinking of an answer to your question, which in most cases means a lie. If I were to ask you what you had for lunch today you would not take long to respond because you know the answer. When you have to think about an answer that you should know , this suggests creative thought process is being used. This is a sign of deception.
Verbal and Physical contradiction, an obvious contradiction is a person shaking their head left to right to indicate "No" but verbally saying yes. This is because the physical reaction is subconscious while the verbal reaction is conscious. Normally these 2 will match up and when they contradict, it suggests a lie has occurred. Another example would be the person frowning as they say "I love your dress!"
Facial Touching, another classic lie detection is frequent touching of the face during an interaction. The most commons ones are touching of the mouth as a subconscious way "hiding" their words and Touching of the ears to indication of "blocking" the conversation out
